Step by Step

This excursion covers two unmissable attractions on the island: Palma de Mallorca and the picturesque village of Valldemossa. The itinerary lasts around 4 hours and includes both a local guide and coach transport between the capital and the village in the Sierra de la Tramuntana.

Usually, the first part begins at a central location in Palma, such as the Parc de la Mar, just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral of Santa María. Known as La Seu, it stands out for its Gothic architecture and its prime location right by the sea. It also houses the Cathedral Museum, which displays sculptures, paintings and sacred silver objects.

Next to the grand cathedral stands an ancient Muslim citadel converted into a palace for the Christian kings: the Palau de l’Almudaina. King James I the Conqueror commissioned the construction of a square-plan structure with high walls and watchtowers. The crowning glory is the Gothic-style Chapel of Saint Anne and the S’Hort del Rei garden.

Before boarding the coach, there is one more thing to see in Palma: the town hall. It is situated in Plaza de Cort and is notable for its Baroque façade. You will finally arrive in Valldemossa, one of the prettiest villages in Spain. Its medieval layout conceals some hidden gems that are well worth discovering.

  • Palace of King Sancho – Built in the 14th century to house Sancho I, son of James II, to help alleviate his asthma
  • Royal Carthusian Monastery – A complex of buildings that once belonged to the Carthusian monks. Its centrepiece is the church, flanked by a bell tower with its distinctive green tiling. Outside lie the charming King Juan Carlos I Gardens
  • Church of San Bartomeu – A Gothic church dedicated to the town’s patron saint
  • Miranda des Lledoners Viewpoint – The best vantage point in Valldemossa

At the end of the tour, the coach will take you back to Palma de Mallorca. The stop in Valldemossa usually lasts around 1 hour. Whilst you’re there, I recommend trying the town’s culinary speciality: coca de patata.
