Select date and time

Step by Step

With your tickets to World of Discoveries in Porto, you'll be taken on a journey back in time as Portugal's maritime history comes to life. Instead of reading dates on panels, you will enter life-size scenarios that recreate the great routes followed by navigators such as Vasco da Gama and Magellan, from Portuguese ports to the ends of the known world of the time.

The tour is organised into different themed areas, where each room represents a different chapter of the Age of Discoveries. Walking among models of ships, giant maps and recreations of jungles, deserts and distant coasts, you will understand how Portugal opened new maritime routes, connected continents and started one of the first great stages of globalisation.

This is a multi-sensory experience: you will see immersive projections, hear the sounds of the sea, wind and fauna, and be surrounded by scenery that makes you feel like you are inside a caravel or on an ocean route. Panels and audio systems offer information in several languages, making the visit a convenient option for international visitors.

One of the highlights of the visit is the interior boat ride, which simulates the voyage of the Portuguese caravels. Sitting in the boat, you will pass through different scenarios representing the places reached by the explorers: African coasts, Brazil, India, Asia... It is especially exciting for the little ones and very photogenic for all visitors.

All in all, World of Discoveries is an ideal plan for families, schools and history lovers looking for something more dynamic than a traditional museum. In about an hour, you'll feel like you've travelled around the world in the footsteps of Portuguese explorers, without leaving Porto and at your own pace.

I loved the tour, especially the way they recreate ports and ships. The boat was great, although we had to wait a bit to get on. Still, it was worth it.

A different, more immersive museum. Between scenery, projections and effects, you get to know the story effortlessly. The interior boat is a real cutie.

It's very good for a quiet hour. The only thing: you can't eat inside and it caught us in the middle of the afternoon, so it's better to go with that in mind.

I really liked the idea of "living" the routes, not just reading them. The boat ride has a very successful atmosphere with light and sound.
