Step by Step

This full-day tour takes you to the three major archaeological sites in the vicinity of Cairo: the Giza Plateau, the Saqqara necropolis and the ancient city of Memphis. It’s the perfect way to experience the best of Ancient Egypt in a single day, with the convenience of organised transport and a guide.

The experience begins with a pick-up from your hotel in central Cairo, from where you’ll travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to the Giza Plateau. There you’ll find the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the most famous complex in Ancient Egypt. Your Egyptologist guide will explain the history of their construction, their funerary purpose and the theories about how these colossal structures were erected, whilst you have time to take photos and admire the desert landscape.

Nearby, you’ll also visit the enigmatic Sphinx of Giza, an eternal symbol of pharaonic power. You’ll be able to view the monumental statue—with its lion’s body and human head—up close and hear the stories and legends surrounding it, as well as explanations about the associated Valley Temple.

The next stop is Saqqara, one of Egypt’s oldest and most extensive necropolises. Here stands the famous step pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser, considered the first pyramid in history. You’ll stroll through the area, see tombs and the remains of funerary complexes, and gain an understanding of how architecture evolved to produce the ‘classic’ pyramids of Giza.

The day is rounded off with a visit to Memphis, the ancient capital of the Old Kingdom. In the archaeological site, you’ll be able to see the remains of temples and, above all, colossal statues of Ramses II and other artefacts that demonstrate the importance this city held in its day. Between visits, you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant – included in the tour – to recharge your batteries.

At the end of the day, the coach will take you back to your hotel after an intense and very full day during which you’ll have explored thousands of years of Pharaonic history with the help of a specialist guide.
