Step by Step

SEA LIFE Blankenberge offers a tour through various aquatic habitats where you can go from tiny seahorses to rays and sharks in a matter of minutes. The different areas are designed to allow you to observe the animals up close and discover interesting facts about their behaviour and conservation.

One of the most striking areas is the underwater tunnel, where fish and large marine species swim around the visitors. It’s one of those moments when it’s easy to forget that you’re still walking on dry land.

The tour continues through areas such as Otterland and Penguin Beach, where you can meet the small-clawed Asian otters and Humboldt penguins. At certain times of the day, the keepers hold feeding sessions that allow you to observe the animals’ behaviour up close.

SEA LIFE Blankenberge is also home to Belgium’s only seal rehabilitation centre. Here, seals found on the coast are cared for before they can be returned to the sea, adding a dimension to the visit linked to the protection of marine wildlife.

The experience lasts approximately between 1 hour and 1½ hours, although you can go at your own pace and spend more time in the areas that interest you most.

A good aquarium for a family visit, with plenty of variety and a conservation focus that adds a great deal.

I particularly enjoyed alternating between the tunnel, the penguins and the seal enclosure. It never gets monotonous.

An hour and a half very well spent. The children were delighted with the animals.

There was one play area that wasn’t accessible to everyone, although we did find the main route easy to follow.
